Time to Change Companies? Ask These 10 Questions

Work’s no fun when you don’t like your office environment. But before you pack up and change companies, ask yourself:

  1. What do you like most about your current situation?
  2. What do you like least?
  3. Do you receive the support services you view as most important to your success? If not, could you get them elsewhere?
  4. Is your company helping you succeed? More specifically, what could the company do to help you succeed? Is your company willing to try?
  5. Fill in the blanks to compare your ideal work environment with your current environment. My ideal company is _______and my company is_______. My ideal manager is _______and my manager is_______.
  6. What event or string of events would make you change companies? Are any of those things happening in your current situation?
  7. If you’re considering moving to a specific company, what about it appeals to you?
  8. What concerns would you have about changing companies?
  9. Have you encountered a recurring problem at your company? If so, is it possible you’re creating the problem and could help resolve it?
  10. Are the problems at your company resolvable? If you’re not sure, would you be willing to discuss them with your broker, office manager, or coworkers?
