Conference a Great Path to Professionalism

They say success isn't just about what you know but who you know. There's no better venue for gaining contacts - and knowledge - than the REALTOR® Conference & Expo.

In this business, we can’t rest on our laurels. Every paycheck depends on our ability to close a sale or lease transaction, and every transaction is different, calling on a wide and varied range of competencies. It’s all about what you knowI, whom you know, and how you do your job. That’s why—although you often hear people talk about low barriers to entry in real estate—this is not a business where you can get your license and just stop growing.

To achieve long-term success, you have to make a lifelong commitment to education. And there’s no better place to make that commitment a reality than the 2008 REALTORS® Conference & Expo. This year, more than 20,000 of your peers will be at the conference, which takes place Nov. 7–10 in Orlando, Fla.

I urge you to consider making the trip. It’s the best educational and entertainment bargain you’ll find anywhere. Imagine what you’d pay separately for each of these learning opportunities:

● Two hundred education sessions offering expert advice on succeeding in any market conditions

● Hands-on technology training at the Technology Learning Center.

● The chance to see and evaluate first-hand the latest products and services for your business.

● Talks by NFL great Joe Theismann and speakers from the acclaimed Disney Institute.

The entertainment package is just as impressive—a concert with singer-songwriter Lionel Richie; a keynote address by seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong; and Universal Studios night, featuring Kool and the Gang and a $10 coupon to spend in the park. And it’s all included in one low $330 member registration fee!

To make the trip even more of a bargain for you, we’ve negotiated favorable pricing with Orlando area hotels. Six are offering rooms at $99 or less. And from your hotel, there are free shuttles to all the conference action. This special annual issue of REALTOR® magazine will give you a flavor of what’s in store—but there’s nothing like being there.

One of the most important programs during the REALTORS® Conference is quadrennial Code of Ethics training. Since 2000, we’ve made ethics training a requirement of membership, and December 31, 2008, marks the end of the second four-year cycle. The conference is a great place to fulfill your requirement. However, if you absolutely can’t be in Orlando, we’re offering a convenient online option for completing the course. Go to REALTOR.org to take the course free of charge.

Getting your license is just the beginning of your real estate education. To truly call yourself a professional, you need to fully understand the industry’s evolving practices and standards. That’s what being a REALTOR® is all about.

Take advantage of the learning opportunities available through the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®—this November in Orlando and all year long. When it comes to increasing what you know and whom you know—and enhancing how you do your job—there’s no better source.
