Pros: More energy efficient than a traditional steel door, it's available in custom sizes with pre-finishes.
Cons: It expands and contracts more than wood. Plus, it's not ideal for all residences. "There's no historic character to a fiberglass door, and it simply isn't an appropriate match for a historic home," says Neal Vogel, a restoration specialist in Wilmette, Ill.
Upkeep: Follow instructions for staining and finishing door. Use cleaner included in finishing kit or purchase a cleaning product approved by door manufacturer.
