A Green Niche May Be a Big Asset Here

Which city is the greenest of them all? WalletHub sought to find out. Researchers for the publication analyzed the 100 largest cities to see which one promoted environmentally friendly lifestyles the most.

They based their rankings on 20 key indicators, from the number of smart-energy policies and initiatives to greenhouse-gas emissions per capita.

WalletHub named the following cities the “greenest” ones of all in 2016:

  2. Honolulu
  3. San Jose, Calif.
  4. Fremont, Calif.
  5. San Diego, Calif.
  6. Washington, D.C.
  7. Oakland, Calif.
  8. Portland, Ore.
  9. Sacramento, Calif.
  10. Minneapolis, Minn.
  11. Seattle
  12. Madison, Wis.
  13. Boston
  14. New York, N.Y.
  15. Albuquerque, N.M.
