How’s Your City’s Well-Being?

Good news if you live in Florida, California, Colorado, or Texas – your residents display a high sense of well-being, according to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. These four states alone account for 14 of the top 20 well-being communities in the latest report.

To measure well-being, researchers weighed purpose, social, financial, community, and physical data-points of 190 communities across the country. The metros that emerged in the top 20 for well-being are:

  1. Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island, Fla.
  2. Salinas, Calif.
  3. North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla.
  4. Fort Collins, Colo.
  5. Barnstable Town, Mass.
  6. Santa Cruz-Watsonville, Calif.
  7. Boulder, Colo.
  8. Charlottesville, Va.
  9. Anchorage, Ak.
  10. San Luis Obispo-Paso Robles-Arroyo Grande, Calif.
  11. McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas
  12. Santa Maria-Santa Barbara, Calif.
  13. Urban Honolulu, Hawaii
  14. Provo-Orem, Utah
  15. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif.
  16. Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura, Calif.
  17. Austin-Round Rock, Texas
  18. Ann Arbor, Mich.
  19. Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Fla.
  20. San Antonio-New Braunfels, Texas
