A Positive First Impression for Your Office

Most of the serious business in your real estate office may happen behind closed doors, but that doesn’t mean the common areas aren’t just as important. In fact, the lobby offers a crucial first impression that will either set new clients at ease or leave them running toward the door. Keeping a clean lobby gives clients the impression that you pay attention to details, and that you care about their experience. Here are six ways to keep your office lobby clean.

1. Designate a Clean Team

The first step to maintaining a spotless lobby is to determine who is responsible for its care. Even if you hire a cleaning service, you may need to do some maintenance in between visits. Create a rotating schedule so that everyone participates in keeping the lobby clean.

2. Appeal to Clients’ Sense of Smell

Scent is the most powerful sense. It’s directly related to the amygdala and hippocampus, the areas of your brain that process emotion and memory. Pick a scent that corresponds with your brand image. For example, a high-end office may opt for a luxurious scent such as leather. If you’re unsure, choose scents that are known to be pleasing to most everyone like light citrus, freesia or other floral scents. 

3. Be Clear as Day

Nothing ruins sunshine like a dirty window. The key to making window cleaning fast and easy is to have the proper tools on hand. Using traditional cleaners and paper towels can create streaks and leave behind residue. Instead, use a small amount of dishwashing detergent in a bucket of warm water. Apply the solution with a strip applicator and wash until windows are clean. Then, use a squeegee to remove the solution. The windows will dry streak free.

4. Keep Dirt at the Door

Placing mats that absorb water and dirt, both on the inside and outside of your entryway, is a great way to keep the rest of the lobby clean. Invest in specialty mats designed for commercial use so they will last longer, and resist fading in the sun.

5. Don’t Let Dust Settle

When sunlight hits the surfaces in your lobby, dust will seem to magically appear. Attend to dust buildup between cleaning service visits. Keep some dusting supplies on hand, so that you can easily wipe down surfaces. When selecting lobby furniture and accessories, opt for light colored items, which will show dust less often than dark colors.

6. Ditch the Dirt Daily

Create a caddy of cleaning supplies and keep it on hand in a nearby closet. A few minutes of touch-up every day will ensure that your lobby always looks sparkling clean and welcoming. This daily cleaning ritual can be rotated through everyone in the office so that no one has to spend too much time cleaning. After all, everyone reaps the rewards of a clean, welcoming lobby.
