How to Update a Kitchen to Attract Buyers

1. Paint. This is one of the easiest and most affordable remodeling jobs to modernize a kitchen. A bright color like yellow often helps open up an area or deep colors, like red, may help make a space feel more cozy and inviting, according to the article. Bright white can be a timeless option too. Just be sure to freshen the trim in a complimentary color after you paint.

2. Update the cabinets. You don’t need to replace the cabinets completely to give them a new, updated look. Add new drawer pulls or just change out the cabinet doors. Consider installing glass pantry doors with recessed lighting “to turn a stack of antique dishes into a display.”

3. Change out the accessories. You might be able to change the look by just swapping out some kitchen accessories. For example, add some stainless steel canisters, bamboo dish drainers, and light muslin dish towels to help modernize the kitchen.

4. Add a kitchen island. The added counter space is coveted in kitchen remodels today. Choose an island that fits the kitchen’s layout, though. Even small kitchens can often squeeze in a portable kitchen island fitted to size. Or, owners may consider making their own kitchen island and make it a statement piece by renovating a console table by painting it and adding wheels.
