2 Men Charged in Deadly Agent Carjacking

Two men have been charged in the carjacking of a real estate agent that led to the death of a mother and three children last month.

Jonathan Rosa, 19, turned himself in to police last week, and Cornelius Crawford, 23, was taken into police custody Sunday. The suspects have been charged with four counts of second-degree murder and conspiracy, as well as robbery, robbery of a vehicle, kidnapping, sexual assault, and other related offenses.

A 45-year-old real estate professional left a home showing at 11 a.m. on July 25 in north Philadelphia when police say she was approached by two men and forced into the backseat of her own SUV at gunpoint. Police say the two men sped through the city streets while taking turns sexually assaulting the agent.

About 15 minutes later, the suspects lost control of the car as the SUV blew a tire and jumped the curb, slamming directly into a family standing by a fruit stand, according to police reports.

The crash killed three children—ages 7, 10, and 15—instantly. The children’s mother, Keisha Williams, died of her injuries about two weeks after the incident.

According to Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, the men’s original motive was robbery of the real estate agent.  A cell phone belonging to one of the suspects, Jonathan Rosa, was found at the scene. Police say that Rosa has admitted to being involved in the carjacking but has denied driving the car or sexually assaulting the agent. Crawford, recently out of prison after serving an approximately five-year sentence on a robbery charge, has yet to make a statement.

Both suspects will face life in prison, police say.
