Realtor.com® Names Its First Chief Economist

Housing expert Jonathan P. Smoke will move into a new role as realtor.com®’s first chief economist, Move Inc. announced Monday.

Smoke will lead a team of real estate analysts at Move, providing monthly housing reports as well as current analysis of housing trends.

How recent changes at Move are boosting its business.

"Jonathan is a highly respected housing economist and has proven himself as a leader and a strategic thinker in creating innovative data and analytics related to housing," says Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the National Association of REALTORS®. "He brings to the position more than 20 years of industry experience and a passion for creating leading-edge insights into consumer needs, preferences, and demands, and he will help drive realtor.com®'s reputation as the most accurate site for residential real estate listings and information."

Previously, Smoke served six years in various roles at Hanley Wood, a real estate media company, including as chief economist, senior vice president, and executive director of market intelligence. In 2006, Smoke founded BlueSmoke LLC of Atlanta, a housing market research company that provided consulting services to builders, developers, lenders, and real estate investment companies, as well as operated HousingIntelligence.com and RatingInsights.com.

"Jonathan brings to our team analytical horsepower, a depth of experience in all aspects of the housing marketplace, and a keen ability to communicate trends to experts and novices alike," says Luke Glass, Move's executive vice president of industry platforms.
