How’s Your Twitter Etiquette?

Do you call yourself a “social media guru”? Are all your tweets auto-generated? Are you sending direct message spam? If so, you’re going to have a tough time attracting and retaining followers on Twitter.

Twitter can be a great place to connect with potential clients and other real estate professionals. It’s also a platform you can use to demonstrate your real estate expertise, that is, if you're using good Twitter etiquette.

Here are a few tips for maximizing your follow appeal:

  • Create visual engagement. Start by upload a nice, genuine profile photo, then let your personal flavor or brand shine by customizing your header photo and background.
  • You are most certainly a unique butterfly, but that's not a license to constantly brag about how awesome you are. Twitter is not the place to overtly sell yourself. Instead, engage in meaningful, relevant conversations. Share articles your would-be clients might find interesting, which also provide educational or infotainment value.
  • Are you automatically direct messaging (DM) all your follows? You might come across as a spammer, a robot, or overly self-promotional. Your first impression to a new follower shouldn’t be lazy marketing.
