'Video Bios': The Next Wave of Branding

Forbes calls a “video bio” an essential branding tool in today’s business world. You can use video to show off your personality and let clients learn more about you and why they should work with you. 

In a recent article, Forbes highlighted some tips for crafting effective video bios: 

  • Don’t turn it into a resume listing: Go beyond your experience and credentials. Use the video to demonstrate your thought leadership and talk about how you deliver value.
  • Keep it concise: Video bios should be 2-3 minutes long. 
  • Make it high-quality: Your video will say a lot about your brand, so invest in a high-quality video bio with professional lighting and sound. 
  • Choose your setting carefully: “What you have behind you speaks about your brand,” the Forbes article notes. Make sure the background isn’t distracting and reinforces your brand. 
  • Spread the word: Post your video in multiple areas, including your web site and blog, YouTube, Vimeo, LinkedIn, and e-mail signature.
