Instagram Adds Video Sharing Feature

Company officials with Instagram, a popular Facebook-owned photo sharing service with more than 130 million users, announced that it will now include video sharing capabilities.

The latest app update of Instagram for Android and iOS released Thursday includes a video camera icon on the capture screen. Users can now capture video clips of up to 15 seconds in length and instantly share them through social media channels.

"We put the power of a photography studio in the palm of your hand,” says Instagram founder Kevin Systrom. “We've done the same for video. So now you can take beautiful video and basically share it with the world.”

The tool also comes with 13 different filters that could be applied to the video, such as features that brighten videos, add cinema mode, and help stabilize shaky video. The videos include sound, too.

Real estate professionals have become big users of Instagram. “The real estate community has had a colorful presence among the photos in the Instagram community, many of whom create large followings, close deals, lead generate and connect with other local residents,” Inman News reports. “From listing photos, community landmarks and hot spots, the creative filters give agents a social edge, and can even show off their creative branding with their followers, creating a visual brand.”

The Instagram video app is viewed as a competitor to Twitter's Vine app, which debuted earlier this year and allows iPhone and Android users to share 6-second video clips. Vine is one of the most popular apps in Apple’s App Store.
