Market's High End Seeks Supportive Agents

The luxury real estate market is picking up steam, prompting many agents to enter the niche. According to a December Coldwell Banker report, 54 percent of ultra-affluent buyers are married with children, and 39 percent are international buyers from Asia. Location is the most important feature for 79 percent of buyers, and 44 percent said online marketing is the most effective.

At a recent press conference, luxury agents from Coldwell Banker said most of their ultra-affluent clients were between the ages of 35 and 45, and the number of affluent women is on the rise. Jennifer Ames from Coldwell Banker Chicago said ultra-luxury clients are younger and family-oriented, desire open floor plans and clean designs, and seek lavish outdoor living spaces.

Among other interests, the agents said ultra-affluent clients want such amenities as subterranean garages, wine cellars, mud rooms, and accommodation for high-tech gadgets. Most important, agents serving luxury buyers must keep in mind that they make purchases based on location and lifestyle.
