PulteGroup to Relocate its Headquarters

One of the nation’s largest homebuilders is on the move. PulteGroup is reportedly moving its headquarters from the Detroit suburbs to Atlanta.

PulteGroup, based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., was founded in Detroit in 1950. The founder, William J. Pulte, and five of his high school friends built a five-room bungalow from a floor plan they found in the Detroit Times’ Home of the Week section.

PulteGroup operates in 60 markets across the country.

In 2009, PulteGroup acquired homebuilder Centex Corp. The company includes brand names like Centex, Pulte Home, and Del Webb.

Last year, PulteGroup produced about 5 percent of all new homes.

In recent years, the company “suffered a major blow during the housing downturn, but its financial picture has brightened more recently,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The company will reportedly relocate 300 of its headquarter jobs to the Atlanta area.
