Industry Mourns Loss of Safety Expert Andrew Wooten

Well-known real estate safety expert Andrew L. Wooten, 50, who served as a safety adviser for the National Association of REALTORS®, died Tuesday. Wooten was reportedly caught in a rip current in rough seas and drowned while swimming in the ocean near Cozumel, Mexico.

At the time of the incident, Wooten had been traveling as an instructor for Seminar at Sea, a real estate continuing education program sponsored by the Emerald Coast Association of REALTORS®.

Wooten was president of a safety training company called Safety Awareness Firearms Education (SAFE). He provided training, seminars, and webinars to real estate associations, brokerages, and professionals across the country on safety topics.

Wooten once told Inman News: “I truly believe your best weapon is yourself: Your mind, your voice, your body. ... Ninety-nine percent of all my survivors all say the same thing: 'Andrew, I knew something wasn't right. When I was doing the open house that little voice [said something was wrong]. I didn't feel good. But I ignored it and look at what happened.’ Listen to yourself, trust yourself. Unfortunately, the little voice you get may be the only warning sign you get. If it says something's not right, get out."

Wooten is survived by his wife, Audrey, and daughter, Jessica Walker.
