Pinterest Launches Business Pages

Real estate practitioners got in on the Pinterest craze early, recognizing it as a visually appealing and low-cost strategy for promoting their listings.  The image-based social site is also commonly used in the real estate community as a testimonial page, where satisfied customers post photos in their new home.  As an added bonus, agents can add links to drive traffic to their own Web site or blog.

Now, Pinterest has launched business accounts, which usher in some favorable changes.  For example, the new accounts will permit the use of specific business names whereas subscriptions previously required a first and last name.  Users also will be able to verify their Pinterest page to identify high-quality sources of content — much in the way that Twitter users do.

Business page users, including property agents and brokers, additionally can place buttons on their own Web sites so that visitors can more easily "pin" items or follow their feeds.

Best of all, existing Pinterest pages can be switched over into the new business format; and the site offers marketing guidelines as well as best practices for using a business site.
