Man Waives Trial in Kidnapped Agent Case

A York, Pa., man says he “feels bad” for kidnapping a female real estate agent and has decided to waive his right to a preliminary hearing to spare her “re-victimization,” his attorney announced.

The homeless man, Gregory S. Knaub, said a drug addiction prompted him to kidnap a real estate agent on May 21 and force her to withdraw cash from an ATM. He allegedly lured the agent by saying he was interested in viewing a home for-sale that he saw in the newspaper. After viewing the home, he followed the real estate agent outside and got in the backseat of her car, threatening her with a steak knife, according to police reports.

He allegedly let the agent go shortly after she withdrew the money from the ATM and then he fled, submerging himself in a nearby creek underwater while police cornered him. Police arrested him as soon as he came up for air.

Knaub’s lawyer told The York Dispatch that the man hopes that by waiving a preliminary hearing he can avoid trial and come to a deal with prosecutors.

Knaub has been charged with kidnapping, unlawful restraint, theft, receiving stolen property, false imprisonment, and two counts of robbery.
