Campaign Seeks to Motivate Potential Sellers

As more buyers jump off the sidelines, they are finding less inventory of homes to shop for. Inventories of houses for sale have fallen 20 percent nationwide, as more home owners delay selling their homes to see where the market heads. This decrease in inventory has caused some real estate professionals to try to motivate more home owners to sell.

That’s part of the message behind a new campaign that the Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS® recently launched, called “Ask Me!” The campaign allows both sellers and potential home buyers to ask NVAR REALTORS®: “Is it the right time for me to sell or buy my home?”

In Northern Virginia, there is less than a two-month supply of homes available, a 37 percent decrease over the past year, according to NVAR. “This limited supply means that prices are rising and that an owner who has been waiting should consider putting his or her home on the market,” according to an NVAR press release about the new campaign.

What’s more, NVAR notes that recent Northern Virginia sellers have seen their homes sell for 97 percent of the listing price compared to 95 percent nationwide.

“‘Ask Me!’ will get out the word that there has never been a better time to discuss with a REALTOR® about how consumers may take advantage of the tremendous strength of the market and the economy. This is a time of opportunity,” says Pat Kline, NVAR’s chairman of the board.
