Ohio Agents Warned About Man Targeting Females
Police are warning female real estate agents in the Akron, Ohio, area to be on alert for a man that is targeting female agents, asking for showing appointments after-dark and trying to lure them alone to a vacant home to sexually assault them.
The man uses the name “Wayne Martin” with a 303 area code for the phone number. He insists on meeting after 7 p.m., according to an alert by the Akron Board of REALTORS®.
"This fact pattern matches that of a man who was charged with attempted abduction and gross sexual imposition in January 2010," according to the warning issued by the Akron Board of REALTORS®. The man served a year in jail and was released in July.
Real estate professionals in the area are urged to meet with clients in their office first and to follow safety procedures. The board also warned agents to take extra precautions when conducting open houses since the man has also been known to show up at open houses in trying to find an agent alone.
