Agent Uses eBay to Try to Sell Office Buildings

Real estate agent Jeanne Clarkson is helping her investor clients list three office buildings in Anderson, Ind., on eBay in trying to reach a broader pool of buyers in a $4.5 million package deal for the buildings. The buildings include two high-rises and a two-story office building.

The eBay listing, which isn’t up for auction, has generated more than 50 leads from the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain.

The two investors who own the buildings decided to sell the buildings after their property taxes soared to nearly $200,000 a year after changes took effect in how the state taxes commercial properties. The buildings aren’t fully occupied so “more than 25 percent of the gross income of those properties goes toward property taxes," Clarkson said.
