7 Cities With Lowest Unemployment Rates
Unemployment rates were lower in July than a year earlier in 257 of the 372 metro areas, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest data.
The unemployment rate for the U.S. stands at 9.3 percent.
Bismarck, N.D., boasted the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 3 percent. On the other hand, El Centro, Calif., and Yuma, Ariz., posted the highest unemployment rates--30.8 and 30 percent, respectively.
The following are the metros with the lowest unemployment rates from July, including the unemployment rate for each.
- Bismarck, N.D.: 3%
- Fargo, N.D.-Minn.: 3.7%
- Lincoln, Neb.: 3.8%
- Sioux Falls, S.D.: 4.2%
- Rapid City, S.D.: 4.3%
- Grand Forks, N.D.-Minn.: 4.7%
- Omaha-Council Bluffs, Neb.-Iowa: 4.7%
- Portsmouth, N.H.-Maine: 4.7%
