"On the tail end of an extended illness, I took time to evaluate my next steps professionally and personally. Prior to 2007, my experience had been in the nonprofit and government sectors, and I was in the midst of applying for my master’s in social work. I hoped for the opportunity to work as an advocate and thought that social work may be the best avenue. However, I had felt a pull toward real estate. I now think that coming out of an illness may have increased my willingness to take a risk."
